Controller

Job Description:

Reporting to the CEO, the controller will proactively manage the accounting and financial reporting and planning responsibilities for company-wide support of a fast growing computer networking company. The controller is an acknowledged leader within financial and operational management in a variety of settings. Scope and influence extend across organizational boundaries. Fiduciary responsibility is proactively executed. The controller’s depth and breadth of prior experience have direct applications in the role of financial decision-maker for the organization.

Responsibilities:

Accounting Side

Meet all daily finance process requirements (monthly and quarterly close, P&L, sales, expenses, manufacturing and product costs, cost standards)
Process information to meet reporting requirements (gather information, prepare journal entries, formulate data into basic reporting formats)
Independent completion of all position duties; may provide guidance to others on tasks in area. Manages transactional accounting resources and outsource providers
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures for a robust control environment
Possess strong technical accounting skills, particularly in the area of revenue recognition
Manage relationship and interaction with bank and external audit, tax, and valuation firms

Business Side

Provide business partner perspective as member of the supported organization(s) management team(s)
Generate accurate, relevant, and useful information to operations and finance regarding financial and operational results
Analyze such information, providing insight and making recommendations to management. A demonstrated history of driving value-added contributions of this nature (individually or through subordinates) is expected at this position level
Exhibit understanding and fortitude to proactively execute fiduciary responsibility for the organization’s resources (such as headcount, fixed assets, spending)
Establish goals and provides vision for own finance group. Leads subordinates to achieve operational and developmental goals. Size and structure of group may warrant spending, forecasting, and budgeting responsibilities as department head
Play insightful and influential liaison role with top management, corporate finance, and operations. Strong communication is established between these groups and the manager’s organization
Prepare monthly financial reports for the Board of Directors and possess the communication skills to effectively communicate with current and potential investors

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, plus 8 years experience. CPA preferred; MBA a plus
Requires strong financial, business, administrative, and interpersonal skills
Experience in computer hardware/networking industry preferred
Experience with startups highly preferred
