Solutions Brief PDF

Woven technology is pushing the state-of-the-art in non-blocking 10 GE bandwidth and ultra-low latency for strategic data center operations.

Applications

Enterprise Data Center

diagramNew, data-intensive applications, virtualization, and increasing use of computational power are forcing IT teams to rapidly evolve their underlying network infrastructures. Until recently, options for scaling network infrastructure were limited, because of Gigabit Ethernet’s (GE’s) limited scalability and the added latency and complexity of Layer 3 routing. Woven Systems™ now eliminates Ethernet’s scalability limitations with a scalable 10 GE fabric that delivers high bandwidth and ultra-low latency.

Support 10 GE Needs Today

Woven switches can be interconnected to create a scalable Layer 2 multi-path 10 GE fabric. As a result, the resilient fabric structure is not limited by the bandwidth capacity of a single switch. Woven’s vSCALE™ technology, with Dynamic Congestion Avoidance, balances bandwidth across the entire fabric, thereby attaining the highest levels of application performance and low latency across the fabric. In addition, the Woven technology detects path failures in the network and automatically re-routes data to an alternate path in less than 10 milliseconds, keeping servers and applications running at optimal performance levels.

Traffic Partitioning

Meeting service level agreements (SLAs) for end-user applications requires sophisticated quality of service (QoS) capabilities to ensure that bandwidth requirements of higher priority applications are not starved by less important ones across a converged network fabric. Woven Ethernet fabrics provide the ability to partition network resources as broadly or narrowly as desired. With Woven, bandwidth can be partitioned to reserve fabric capacity for specific applications — such as online transaction processing or storage back-up — while remaining fabric bandwidth may be shared by less-critical applications.

Lower Operational Costs

Woven solutions enable IT administrators to work with familiar, standards-based Ethernet technology, eliminating the need for specialized expertise, rebuilding existing applications, or complex rerouting and reconfiguration. At one-third the rack space and one-fifth the power consumption of competing systems, Woven delivers the lowest total cost of ownership.
